Sync types for desktop connectors

Overview

If a desktop integration has been configured to install (and thus remain installed) on a user's machine, the Codat Desktop connector (Sage 50 or QuickBooks Desktop) will continue to periodically sync accounting data after an initial sync has successfully completed.

The datasets that are synced depend on your Data Sync Settings.

1. Queued datasets

The connectors will check periodically in the background whether there is any new or changed data to pull and/or update. This is to ensure data freshness.

🚧

Sage 50 syncs

For the short period that the Sage 50 connector is syncing data, Sage may prevent the transactional data from being updated. This is for the purpose of data integrity. Once the sync is complete, a user may continue as normal and interact with the linked company's data file in Sage 50 again.

2. Performing a sync from a connector in the background

Given a connector is running in the background, a user has the option to force a sync.

To do this:

  1. Right click the icon for the connector in the tray. This is usually found in the bottom right of your screen.
  1. Select Perform data sync.

  2. Given a sync is not already taking place, a new sync will be performed.

Current Syncs

If a synchronisation is already taking place when the user clicks 'Perform data sync', then a new sync will not be queued. A new sync will only be queued if there are no synchronisations currently taking place.

3. Performing a sync from a connector in the foreground

It is also possible to open the connector and force a sync directly from the connector.

To do this:

  1. Right click the icon for the connector in the tray. This is usually found in the bottom right of your screen.
  1. Select Open Sage 50 Connector.

  2. Select Perform Sync on the connector to perform a sync.
